Client Spotlight – Bike Delaware Cycling Jersey Design

The Client: Bike DE

One thing I love about working with Bike Delaware is that it takes me out of my comfort zone. I’ve worked with Drew twice now, and we usually begin our jersey designs by taking a look at the work done in previous years. We analyze what he liked, what he didn’t, and how this year’s version should be different.

The thing that strikes me every time is how urban and artistic the previous designs have been, which is not my usual style.  To compensate, I make the craziest, most graffiti-like design I can and then it’s a nice, minimalist version of what Bike DE usually does.

This year, Drew was looking for a cycling jersey design, as well as a poster and a t-shirt.  These pieces were all part of the same promotional campaign for the Amish Country Bike Tour.

Branding Elements: Colors, Fonts, and Graphics

We were working with a couple different logos, so I pulled colors directly from those to keep the design from getting too disoriented.  Similarly, the fonts were chosen to feel sporty but also complement the logos.

Design Process: Cycling Jersey, Poster, T-shirt

Bike jersey design options

I started with the main design, the cycling jersey, and came up with ideas that highlighted different concepts from the logo.  One focuses on cycling, another features a farmstead-inspired design, and the third attempts to combine the two.  Drew chose the 1st design, which was also my favorite and made the next designs that much more fun!

After settling on the design, he wanted, I took those style elements and adapted them for a poster and a t-shirt.  The poster had more content, the t-shirt had less, so it was an interesting contrast.  I had to figure out what to add and what to take out.

Ultimately, I think we ended up with a nice, cohesive set that promotes the bike tour!  To learn more about it, visit their website: www.AmishCountryBikeTour.com
