DIY Design & Marketing

To figure out how to help people manage their own design and marketing, I thought about what types of projects my clients have tried to DIY and where they’ve struggled. Branding and social media are always a popular topic at networking events, marketing strategy can be a lot of fun once you learn the industry jargon, and WordPress websites are totally manageable once you get past the learning curve.

With a little bit of research, and some perseverance, anyone can throw together a flyer or content calendar. But the thing people often miss (and the trademark of my business) is the strategy behind those designs. Your brand is not just a piece of clip art, some color swatches, and your company name typed out in a font. It’s the whole look and feel of your company, the way you interact with your audience, and the way your audience perceives you. There’s a whole series of steps to follow to make sure that your brand will appeal to the right people. And the same goes for the marketing that accompanies that brand.

Over the last couple years, I’ve put together strategic processes to make sure all my work accomplishes something for my clients other than just looking pretty. I can’t necessarily give you all the skills that come with experience and a college degree, but I can definitely give you a jump start into creating your own design and content.

One-On-One Lessons

$125 for the first hour, $75/hour for additional time

Personalized lessons are all about you. Rather than preach at you from behind my slides, we’ll review what you already know and then I’ll help you get through the places you’re getting stuck or need some support with your design or marketing. Teachable topics include:

  • WordPress
  • Adobe Illustrator, Indesign, or Photoshop
  • Marketing Strategy
  • Social Media (anything from how to use the platforms to creating a content calendar)
  • Email (creating templates, setting up accounts, what to write, or how to set up drip campaigns)

Group Lessons

$250 + $5 per registrant

I’ll come to your location with a prepared presentation, go through about 30 minutes of lecture, and then end with 15-30 minutes of open Q&A. If you’d prefer to use that time more strategically, we can do a workshop format and start creating strategies for your organization. I do give occasional presentations fo’ free, so I suggest seeing if you can attend one of those for things like DIY Marketing and then scheduling a class for the more advanced topics. (Check out JWD events on Facebook.) Classes include:

  • DIY Marketing – Marketing strategy overview for beginners
  • Social Media 101 – Getting started with Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
  • Marketing Analytics – Making sense of benchmarks and metrics
